Windows 10 S mode is free for users. The full suite of Office apps in preview are currently available to download today with Office in the Windows Store for Windows 10 S.
No support for bit x64 apps: S mode on Snapdragon processors supports bit x86 apps, bit ARM32 apps, and bit ARM64 apps only—there is no support for bit x64 applications. Be forewarned: Switching out of S mode is a one-way street. For basic every day use, using the Surface Notebook with Windows S should be fine. Microsoft created this mode for better security by limiting what the user can do. The S Mode restrictions provide additional protection against malware.
PCs running in S Mode can also be ideal for young students, business PCs that only need a few applications, and less experienced computer users. The big difference between Windows 10S and any other version of Windows 10 is that 10S can only run applications downloaded from the Windows Store. Every other version of Windows 10 has the option to install applications from third-party sites and stores, as has the majority of versions of Windows before it. S Mode is a more locked down mode for Windows.

I bought a laptop which came with a preinstalled Windows 10 home Smode. I went ahead to install windows 10 pro on it hoping to activate it in my own way. I can’t even download or install any third party software from the net neither am I able to disable it because I don’t have the product key to the windows that I installed. Neither can I get the preinstalled Windows again too.
Please I. Need help badly. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thank you very much for the response Carlos. But in my case, there is no “get” button for me in the Microsoft store. So it channels back to the fact that I’m using an inactivated version of windows now and has to be activated first before I can see the “get” option. Other than that the option I see is “buy” of which I have no money to buy too. That’s making my laptop almost like a chocolate teapot.
Please is there another way to bypass this activation process? I installed the Pro on Thursday! I downloaded it from a site. That’s the view from my activation page. Thank you very much. Hoping to hear from you. Please who’s assisting me out. I’m stranded now. I’m in the university and I need more softwares to operate please. You cannot activate because you do not have a licence for Pro edition only Home. Looking at your screenshot select Recovery, do you have the option to go back to the previous build or version.
That may return it to Windows 10 Home and then you can look at switching out of S Mode. When or if you are able to “go back” check what version and build you have of Windows 10 Home. Type winver in Search and select the top result. Post back the version and build in full.
As the option to remove “S” I think it is purchasing new license specially for W10 Pro My first time of running the 10 pro over the default Home, I formatted all the partitions on the disk. So I’m presuming that all the backups and recovery options are gone in my case. Even if er should be, it’ll be that of windows 10 pro again, which is the currently running one. The preinstalled Windows 10 home,I don’t have any software or information on it. I’ve already discarded the COA sheet.
Certificate of Authenticity. Thank you for the response! The Windows 10 home was preinstalled and hence I don’t have the bootable disk for the original copy of that which was activated already. I’ve tried running several 10 home thinking it maybe activated for me since it was already but it didn’t work for me.
I think the prime way of getting through this is by buying a product key, that of which I can’t afford too. Where did you get the boot media to clean install Windows 10 Pro. If you used the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft it should also contain Windows 10 home and you will need to clean install again and select Home edition. It is quite possible because the device has a licence for Windows 10 Home it will install Home edition after you have deleted all partitions via Custom install.
If you have already clean installed Windows 10 Pro then your only option is to clean install Home and then switch out of S Mode as per.
