In reply to Adrianne Buc’s post on April 12, Hello, I opened the thread and I still have the problem. Hi Keith, Thank you for posting back. Here are the steps on how to remove the United Kingdom Keyboard from the selection shortcut: Open Settings from the Start menu.
Select English United Kingdom and click on Options. On the next window, click on United Kingdom and select Remove. Your keyboard language selection shortcut should now look like this. Let us know if you find this helpful.
In reply to Adrianne Buc’s post on April 16, At this rate, you will not even notice it. Even with this extra 0. The stretch is about the same as when you come from home row. Third, LY occurs at the end of the word almost all the time. This is important and it makes a huge difference. This means that when you type LY, you do it at the end of the flow of a word as a finishing stroke instead of being in the middle, which makes it less cumbersome. A better indicator of finger effort is the Finger Percentage.
If you look at the Finger Percentages for Workman, Colemak, and Dvorak, nothing really stands out at first glance. However, Workman further reduces the load on the right pinky finger over Colemak and Dvorak.
The right pinky, despite being one of the weakest, is one of the most used finger on a standard keyboard due to the location of the Enter, Shift, and Backspace keys, as well as additional punctuation keys. Below are the average percentages for each hand. The two analyzers give slightly different results because they differ a little bit in how they do the calculations.
However you still get the idea. Dvorak was supposedly designed for low SHU which means that your hands alternate more frequently. On typewriters, it is very difficult to type combos with one hand because each key needs a large amount of force to depress. You actually rely more on the momentum of your arms and wrists to provide that force so alternating between your two arms is very helpful.
However, this method of typing is inefficient on the modern keyboard because modern keys are easy to press. You are no longer reliant on each arm or wrist stroke to depress a single key. Doing so is actually unnecessary and a waste of energy. It is much more efficient to ride the momentum of a single arm or wrist stroke and type a combo rather than just one key.
This way your arms and wrists potentially move less while typing the same number of keys, effectively killing several birds with one stone. In the System Tray at the bottom of your Windows screen, you will see an icon of a keyboard here, circled in red.
On some computers, this icon may be at the top of your screen or at the top of your active window instead. At this point restart Windows. By clicking that icon, you can switch between key-layouts.
I have two languages installed. I have the UK Extended Keyboard enabled. I want to cycle through only two options: UK Extended and Thai. These are the installed languages. This is the selected Input Method. This should be easy. Based on your screenshot, it looks like you almost had it.
After clicking Options , simply click Remove instead of Add an input method. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help.
Thanks for your feedback. I think maybe uploaded the wrong screen shot. I had been playing around with the adding and removing the UK keyboard as well as the extended keyboard. To fix it, I have to add the UK keyboard, then delete it. I’m trying it right now and observe if the issue will replicate.
In the meantime, let’s isolate the issue. Create a test user account and check if the issue replicates. Follow the steps outlined in this article.

You want your Apple keyboard to work for windows? When I wrote it I was using one of these: … but the Apple layout hasn’t changed, so this layout works for current Apple keyboards. For that I use autohotkey — see below. The Windows 10 update required me to reinstall the keyboard layout — it appeared in the language settings keyboard list but not in the taskbar list of available keyboards.
Reinstall-repair fixed it. My preferred solution for this is an AutoHotkey script, partly because after using Autohotkey for a few weeks I realised it is utterly brilliant, an all-singing, all-dancing customise-your-Windows-in-every-way tool, with an all-but-zero footprint.
I got this approach from the keyboard layout used by Parallels on the Mac, which simply duplicated common shortcuts such as Ctrl-X, Ctrl-V to the Cmd-key. Since about the time that iPhone launched, OS X scroll direction, both mouse and keyboard, has used the metaphor of “push the document up to move it up the window” rather than the previous “push the scroll bar up to move the document down the window.
Oddly enough, Microsoft mice come with a Windows driver that let you reverse scroll direction via the UI. For other mice, you can FlipFlopScrollWheel. It also means that having run the script, you must unplug the mouse, wait a second, and plug it back in again. You can’t swap keys around with it so do just this: map Left-Windows key to Left-Control. I tried sharp keys but did not seem to work?
