All it is at best is a convenient, quicker way to get concept art from drawings to digital, as well as a fast track for multi platform application. Quite to the contrary, they traded a multitude of tradeoffs for consumers to get quick, cheaper developing on down the road for themselves. With one huge map texture, you can’t have dynamic weather effects and sky, and in case you hadn’t noticed, the game is very linear and lifeless too, largely due to megatextures.

The real deal breaker though is the resulting crap textures in a HUGE file size game. Breakthrough though? Megatextures are nothing but a cheap attempt to sell gamers Carmack’s snake oil, and it isn’t working.

I used to respect Carmack, I really did. He’s a smart guy. Problem is he sold out to the quick, easy profit mindset. Quantity over quality seems to rule in game developing anymore.

He’s every bit as much a sellout as Cliffy B is now. Excellent post DilTech Originally Posted by 3lfk1ng. It appears many people here weren’t paying attention. He made it quite clear Its key strength is that it can present a more detailed overall scene due to how much unique data can be shown to the camera versus a traditional engine where the same texture tiles all over everything. That being said, the biggest problem is RAM and storage.

The game’s original, as-created texture set is measured in terabytes. The 20 GB game you get to play misses out on vast amounts of texture detail because they had two constraints to deal with in the real world: size for distribution and target system memory constraints.

The PC version uses the same game data as the console version. Last edited by Particle; at AM. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn’t easy to contradict what the person is actually saying. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers.

When an advanced video setting fails to apply, the setting may be set back to a safe default. Texture detail will fall back to OFF when large page table allocations fail. On failure, these settings will automatically fall back to safe values without the need for user input. The Scorchers. Authority Resistance. Road Rage Wasteland Legends. Remember Me? Results 1 to 24 of Thread: RAGE patch 1. RAGE patch 1. Those screenshots still look so fugly it almost made me vomit. Instead of the fancy thing they tried to do to make crappy low resolution textures look higher-res it would of been easier to just make high resolution textures and it wouldn’t have a massive system impact. Even Skyrim without mods looks better than these “improved” textures.

It’s also ridiculous that the game should run worse, because they still look pretty bad. This game will never be what they initially advertised it to be. You should have included a pic of the entrance to Dead City. Pfff, even with good textures this game is bad. I tried playing it, and it’s boring as hell.

I don’t understand why most reviews give it still a reasonable rating. Skyrim suffers heavily from consolitis but its still x better than Rage. Boy I bet the sales for Rage at least the PC version have completely tanked. Had this game installed a while ago, when I completed it I uninstalled it. All along the watchtower the watchmen watch the eternal return. Id Tech 5 needs to be scrapped completely. The whole megatexture concept it was built around is nothing but mega BS.

It was a flawed theory that only worked well in vast distanced objects as artistic objects and nothing more. Originally Posted by SabreWulf Last edited by Frag Maniac; at PM.
